We had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr. Toya Dudley of Compassion Smiles Dentistry here in Coppell, Texas to learn how she works well in Coppell.
Her office is beautiful, her team is so kind (Kim and Bobby), and she shared all kinds of great advice on wellness.
Here are the highlights of Dr. Dudley’s interview with Amanda Brummitt of The Brummitt Group and Chair of Working Well in Coppell.
Q: What do you do to set up your team for overall health and dental health?
A: I make sure our staff is very informed about dental health for themselves and our patients. We use lunch and learns for dental topics to be on the same page about treatments and have the knowledge they need.
Q: What do you do to make health a priority in your life?
A: It’s important to take time for your check-ups with your primary care physician, dentist (every six months), get your eyes checked. It’s better to detect things early before they get bigger. Prevention is really important. Also, get plenty of rest. Stress is the number one cause of things that can affect your health. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and take time to decompress. Do things to relax like watch a movie or take a walk. Have a hobby to relax. For me, it’s photography (the artwork below is one of Dr. Dudley’s photographs). Also, eat properly. A healthy diet is important. And, of course, brush twice a day morning and night.
Q: What is one thing that you wished everyone knew about dental health?
A: Don’t wait until your dental health affects your quality of life with swelling or pain (being able to talk, take care of your kids, work, get a good night’s sleep). It’s better to treat it small rather than when it gets bigger. Get into the dentist every six months. Things can grow a lot in six months. If a cavity is small, we can fix it with a filling. It takes less time and is less expensive than once it turns into a bigger issue.
